Somerset artist

About

Taking inspiration from the beauty of the landscape close to where she lives in Somerset, Katie Brent works expressively with a variety of mediums: acrylic, gold leaf, mixed media and aquatint printing.

Where possible Katie likes to first sketch directly ‘en situ’ to capture the atmosphere and light in a particular moment. She then works on a larger scale in her beautiful studio, recalling the memory and the feel of the place, as well as referring to photographic images and videos.

More recently Katie has been inspired by botanical scenes; gardens in summertime, RHS Wisley and the splendour of the Hauser and Wirth Garden in Bruton;

“I am drawn to the wonder of nature that surrounds me, I never tire of it, and seek to capture the atmosphere and splendour of it. It is a constant source of inspiration.”

Upon completing a degree in graphic design and illustration at  Central St. Martins School of Art and Design, then a Postgraduate Certificate in Education; Katie worked as an artist and muralist in London, then as a freelance artist for an art consultancy, her commissions featuring around the globe. Katie also taught Art for a number of years at Beaminster school.

Katie now lives in Somerset, close to the borders of Dorset and Devon. She is currently represented at; London Contemporary Art Gallery, Greenstage Gallery in Hereford, A2 Gallery in Wells, Beaminster Gallery and Hatch Gallery in Christchurch, where her work is viewable on their respective websites; www.londoncontemporaryart.co.uk www.greenstagegallery.co.uk, and www.hatchgallery.co.uk.

She is also running Art & print making courses for small groups and 1-2-1’s from her studio in South Chard.
