Katie Brent Studio, Woodbine Cottage, Perry Street, Chard, Somerset, TA20 4QH
This three-hour workshop introduces participants to the art of painting expressive seascapes using a variety of water-based media, including acrylics, inks, and watercolour. Suitable for both complete beginners and practicing artists, the session focuses on loosening creative habits, experimenting with different techniques, and developing personal responses to the sea.
Working from reference material and imagination, participants will explore layering, washes, and dynamic gestures to build atmosphere and space within their seascapes. Emphasis will be placed on responding to materials through play and experimentation rather than aiming for strict realism.
By the end of the workshop each artist will have created a series of exploratory studies and at least one more resolved expressive seascape painting. The session aims to build confidence, nurture creativity and provide practical tools for continuing and expressive painting practise at home.
